What is School Direct?

The Five Counties SCITT @ The Priory Learning Trust (TPLT) programme combines school-centred training, experience and practice with subject specific and professional development. This ensures trainees develop the knowledge, skills and understanding required to be effective teachers. Successful completion of the programme leads to the award of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and the opportunity to gain Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) with 60 Master’s level credits which is delivered in partnership with Sheffield Hallam University. The University deliver face-to-face training at our partner training base in Bristol and provide online tutor support. A QTS only route can be requested and will be considered on an individual basis.

The Five Counties SCITT @ The Priory Learning Trust curriculum provides a balance between educational theory and cognitive research with classroom based practice and application. We have developed a well sequenced, interleaved and progressive approach where trainees knowledge and skills build throughout the year.

You’ll train in at least two schools, getting the chance to learn ‘on the job’ – but you shouldn’t worry about being thrown in at the deep end. You’ll be part of a team from the very start, receiving intensive support from experienced teachers and mentors. That means you won’t be teaching classes unsupported until the school thinks you’re ready.
