1. You must hold a university degree at 2:2 or above
If your degree is not at least 50% related to the subject you’d like to teach, don’t worry – you may still be eligible. We usually ask for an AS or A-level (or equivalent) in the subject. In some cases, you may be asked to complete a Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) course before starting.
2. You also need to have English and maths GCSE qualifications at C grade/grade 4 or higher, plus a Science if you intend to train as a Primary teacher
If you don’t currently hold a GCSE in English, maths, or science, you can still apply. We accept equivalency tests from the Equivalency Testing Provider, and we’ll advise you on the best route forward.
Qualified outside the UK?
If you gained your qualifications overseas, you’ll need to show that they meet UK standards. We’ll ask for a Statement of Comparability from ENIC (European Network of Information Centres, formerly NARIC). If you’re unsure about your eligibility, get in touch and we’ll help guide you through the process.
